Uganda Coffee Cupping Event Held at the United States Department of State
Uganda Embassy Washington D.C in collaboration with the U.S. State Department Bureau of African Affairs, Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), the East African Trade and Investment Hub and the Academy of Coffee Excellence, organized the Uganda Coffee Cupping event that was held at the U.S. State Department on June 29, 2018 from 10:30am to 12:15pm.
The Uganda Coffee Cupping event held in Washington D.C followed a similar event to showcase Uganda Coffee brands at the Seattle Specialty Coffee Expo that was held from April 19-22, 2018 in Seattle, U.S.A. The Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) provided sixteen (16) samples of both Arabica and Robusta coffee for the Cupping Event.
The Uganda Coffee Cupping event attracted over forty (40) Coffee roasters, industry experts and business persons involved in the coffee trade in the U.S. Eastern Coast States of Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Delaware.
Mr. Todd Arnette, Ouality Instructor, Trainer, Certified Roaster and Brewer of the Academy of Coffee Excellence based in Willamsburg, Virginia, U.S.A conducted the Coffee cupping event ceremony.
H.E. Ambassador Mull Ssebujja Katende welcomed the invited guests to the Uganda Coffee Cupping event and made a presentation about Uganda Coffee and Coffee growing regions in Uganda. He urged the American coffee roasters and business persons to taste the good quality of Uganda coffee and buy more Uganda coffee.
Ambassador Katende also invited the American business persons to visit Uganda and invest in the Coffee Industry in Uganda through commercial coffee production and value addition. He also encouraged them to enter into joint ventures with Ugandan Companies that are already established in the Coffee Industry.
The Chief Guest at the Uganda Coffee Cupping event representing the U.S. Department of State was Deputy Assistant Secretary Mr. Eric Stromeyer.
